On September 3, 2020, the Ohio Department of Health issued an order requiring K-12 schools to report and notify parents/guardians and local health departments when a student, teacher, staff member or coach tests positive or is diagnosed with COVID-19. The order requires districts to establish a COVID-19 coordinator. At Hubbard Schools, we encourage students and school staff who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, whether by laboratory test or through clinical examination, to notify our COVID-19 Coordinator no later than 24 hours after receiving a confirmed diagnosis. The health department’s order also encourages K-12 schools to maintain an online dashboard to inform the school community of the number of COVID-19 cases and number of students and staff isolated or quarantined. As a district, we are committed to providing accurate data regarding cases of COVID-19 while maintaining the ongoing confidentiality of our students and staff.

COVID-19 Communications to Parents/Guardians
In the event of a positive case of COVID-19, an all call will be made to the entire district and a letter will be sent home with each student alerting families of the positive case. The Trumbull County Combined Health District will conduct contract tracing to identify individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and will further communicate guidance to those specific individuals.

According to the CDC, QUARANTINE is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from their state or local health department.
According to the CDC, ISOLATION is used to separate people infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, from people who are not infected. People who are in isolation should stay home until it’s safe for them to be around others. In the home, anyone sick or infected should separate themselves from others by staying in a specific “sick room” or area and using a separate bathroom (if available).
