Gridiron Club dissolves, makes final donation to Hubbard Schools

Back in 1973, a group of Hubbard alumni, school supporters and community members formed what would become one of the largest support groups of the Hubbard Exempted Village School District, the Gridiron Club.

On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the Hubbard Exempted Village School District Board of Education accepted the Gridiron’s final donation of $27,500. The group, through much thought and consideration, has made the decision to dissolve the organization. The district will use the Gridiron’s generous gift to purchase two Chromebook carts, help fund the high school’s new mentoring program and make additional security enhancements throughout the district.

“We are so appreciative of the years of support shown to Hubbard Schools by members of the Gridiron Club. We feel fortunate to have had a group of people so committed to our students and our schools,” said superintendent Raymond Soloman.

Since its inception, the Gridiron Club has donated over a $1 million dollars to Hubbard Schools and other organizations through their various fundraisers. In particular, Hubbard Schools has received donations for stadium renovations, a press box, a weight room, sports equipment, athletic fees, warm ups, clothing and athletic budgets. Many years ago, the club even funded the football program in an effort to help Hubbard Schools save money as they worked to pass a levy. Since 1990, the Gridiron Club has awarded over $74,000 in scholarships to Hubbard athletes. In addition to its donations to the schools, the Gridiron Club has also donated to the St. Patrick Food Pantry, Hubbard Christians in Action, Football Moms and the Touchdown Club.
