Hubbard Career and Community Class hosts 2nd annual 5K

On Saturday, May, 14, 2022, the Hubbard Career and Community Class hosted a 5K charity run/walk to support breast cancer research. Students hosted the race as part of a class.

Each year, students taking the class get to choose a cause to support. This year, students honored Hubbard teacher Megan Schellhorn, who is battling cancer, by donating the proceeds to the Joanie Abdu Research Center. The mammogram van was also parked at the event for participants to get screenings. The race was a chance for students to do something for the community while raising money for an important cause.

“It’s important because the students will be able to see what it’s like to volunteer for the community and see how important it is to bring the community together,” said Jaclyn DelMonte.

DelMonte hopes the student-led charity event continues each year. Over 60 walkers/runners participated in the event and over 10 women were screened for breast cancer in the Joanie Abdu Mobile Mammography Van. The event raised over $2,500.00.
