Hubbard Elementary School unveils vending machine that dispenses books

Hubbard Elementary School students who are making positive choices throughout the day have the opportunity to earn a new reward. The school recently installed a vending machine that dispenses books. As part of the elementary school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program, students are able to earn Excellent Eagle tickets, which can then be redeemed for prizes including a book from the vending machine.

“Students in grades K-4 love using vending machines in general. So, when we thought of a vending machine option for the school's PBIS program, we couldn’t think of a better option than one that dispenses books,” said Hubbard Elementary School principal Shawn Marcello.

The elementary school received a grant to purchase books for the vending machine. The school’s librarian hand selected titles she knew students would be interested in and that would cover the reading levels of all students.
