Hubbard Middle School student volunteers to build beds for families in need

Hubbard Middle School student Landon Lovey has been giving up his free time to help build beds for families in need.

Once a month, the seventh grader and other volunteers with Sleep in Heavenly Peace Youngstown travel to the homes of people in need of beds and build them on site. They can build single beds or bunk beds, with four volunteers working on each bed at the same time. The volunteers also provide families with a mattress, bedding and a pillow.

Landon, who is one of the youngest volunteers, got involved after his mother saw information about the charity on Facebook. He says the best part of volunteering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace is seeing the reactions from children when they receive their new beds.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2014 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Its mission is to ensure that every child has a comfortable bed to sleep on. If you would like to make a difference like Landon, you can visit the local chapter’s Facebook page at facebook.com/SHPYoungstown or visit shpbeds.org.
