Hubbard Schools extends its warmest welcome to the district’s new school resource officer Bob Thompson, who is a sergeant with the Hubbard Police Department.
Last month, the school district entered into an agreement with the city of Hubbard to secure a full-time, school resource officer (SRO). Sgt. Thompson is the district’s first SRO. He comes to Hubbard Schools with nearly 25 years of law enforcement experience. He earned his Associate’s of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1994, he began his law enforcement career with the Hubbard Police Department as a part-time officer. He quickly moved into a full-time position and then was promoted to sergeant. Sgt. Thompson also works as a part-time police officer at Youngstown State University.
As an officer, he’s taught defense tactics and firearm and taser training at the Hubbard Police Department. Sgt. Thompson also instructs A.L.I.C.E., ALERRT and solo engagement training. He’s a certified instructor for the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy and has trained recruit officers at Youngstown State University, Kent State University and Kent State Trumbull. Sgt. Thompson was also in fire rescue in the Air Force Reserves.
While at Hubbard Schools, Sgt. Thompson will be responsible for the safety and security of students and staff. He will also serve as a positive mentor and provide education to students on issues related to law enforcement.
Sgt. Thompson is a graduate of Hubbard High School. He continues to resides in the city with his wife and two children.
