Hubbard Exempted Village Schools is proud to announce that middle school teacher Amy Shelby has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Linda Slater Award. This award, established to honor an educator who inspires students to be the best version of themselves both in and beyond the classroom, is presented every other year by the Future Educators of America at Hubbard High School.

Shelby, who has taught in the district for 21 years, was nominated by 7th grader Molly Pierson, who credited Shelby with going above and beyond to support and encourage her students.

Nominations for the award were open to students, parents, community members, and staff, and reviewed by a panel including Cathy Cummings (Hubbard), Arlo Brookhart (Trumbull County ESC), Bernie Edenfield (Retired LaBrae Band Director), and Dr. Dori MacMillan (YSU Graduate Professor and School Psychologist).

Shelby was honored during Hubbard Schools’ back-to-school staff assembly in August, where she received a $500 award from Great Clips and an additional $500 contribution from the Slater family.

The award, named in memory of longtime educator Linda Slater, celebrates teachers who go above and beyond to inspire students, not only in their coursework but also in life.
