Students in Mrs. Congemi’s 6th-grade math classes at Hubbard Middle School recently combined math skills and creativity during a hands-on scaling project inspired by ocean life.
Working together, students used equivalent ratios, measurement, and multiplication to enlarge ocean-themed artwork into giant classroom displays. The project challenged students to carefully section original images into 32 equal grid squares, measure each line precisely, and scale every section up by five times or more while maintaining accurate proportions.
Once completed, students assembled the individual sections together to create large-scale underwater masterpieces featuring colorful ocean characters.
