Tune in tonight on WFMJ at 6 p.m. to hear from high school intervention specialist Kayla Welsh about our Hubbard Schools Food Pantry! 📺 With the help of Kayla’s students, the pantry: -Supplies weekly food bags to over 40 families -Provides over 50 daily grab-and-go bags for students When we first opened last February, we were serving just 3 families. Less than a year later, we’ve grown tremendously, thanks to the Cody A. Pitts Foundation’s $5,000 donation that got us started, and our ongoing partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank, which keeps our shelves stocked. Your support makes a difference! Thanks to a grant awarded to Hubbard Public Library, our students were the very first to experience the new Oculus Meta Quest 2 Education Kit in the classroom! Middle school teacher Andrea Murray was the first to check out the kit for her 5th-grade computer science classes. Her students dove into virtual learning adventures with apps like: 🐸 Dissection Simulator: Frog Edition 🌍 National Geographic Explore VR 🚀 Mission: ISS 🌌 Titans of Space 🌊 Ocean Rift These kits, now available for checkout by educational institutions at the library, offer students an immersive learning experience through VR technology. Mrs. Murray has already reserved the kit for December to introduce her 6th graders to VR. The library has also made seven individual Oculus devices available for public checkout, so students and families can explore at home, too. We’re grateful to Hubbard Public Library for giving our students this hands-on learning opportunity!

Today, our top 12 pickleball players battled it out to crown the 7th-grade pickleball champions in an exciting tournament held in front of their entire grade level! With intense games and extremely close matches, these players truly gave it their all. For the girls, Tori Alexander clinched 1st place, narrowly defeating her twin sister, Allison. On the boys' side, Drake Haun won over Frankie Rossodivita to claim the championship title! Students in Rodney Lehman’s gym classes spend each quarter learning the sport of pickleball, culminating in the tournament of champions to wrap up the course. Congrats to all our competitors! 👏 #HubbardPride #PickleballChampions

Last Friday, we had our annual coat giveaway, and it was a huge success! Thanks to Kommunity 4 Kids and the Hubbard Educators Local Philanthropy ( H.E.L.P.), every second grader received a brand-new Hubbard Eagle winter coat, along with the chance to meet a positive role model from our community. The kids had a great time connecting with mentors from city government, city police, township police, firefighters, the Hubbard Youth Coalition and Hubbard Schools. The goal of the program is to develop positive experiences, relationships and respect between community leaders and our youth. Thank you to everyone who made it a memorable day! #HubbardEagles

We want to remind you about the Hubbard Schools Pantry, a resource available to any student who may need extra food support. If you or your family could use assistance, simply fill out our Food Pantry Request Form (https://forms.gle/4pk9eGxVLpUsbeaw9) or talk to a teacher or school administrator. Once a request is made, food can be sent home with you, or your family can arrange to pick it up from the school – whichever works best! Everything is confidential, and our goal is to ensure that no student goes without the food they need!
