Hubbard junior wins Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship Contest with powerful PSA

Joseph Komlanc, a junior at Hubbard High School, has been named the winner of the 2023 Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship Contest for his powerful written PSA entry on the impact of dementia on families. In his PSA, Komlanc shared his personal experience of watching his grandfather suffer from the disease and the toll it took on his family.

Komlanc's PSA entry not only won first place and a scholarship, but it was also brought to life by the WKBN production team and will soon begin airing on WKBN 27. The PSA provides a poignant reminder of the devastating effects of dementia and encourages viewers to support the Alzheimer's Association in its efforts to find a cure.

The Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship Contest is an annual competition that encourages high school students to create PSAs on topics related to public safety, health, and community issues. The contest is named in honor of Tom Holden, a former WKBN anchor.
