Hubbard senior named to Twenty under 20 list

Hubbard High School senior Grace Benner has been named one of the county’s most impressive young leaders.

Benner has been selected for the 2022 Class of Twenty Under 20, which is sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle, Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley and Kent State University at Trumbull. Now in its 10th year, the Twenty Under 20 program honors 20 high-achieving individuals younger than 20 for their leadership skills through volunteerism, extracurricular activities and academic achievements.

“Grace is an incredibly accomplished young woman who has maintained a 4.0 GPA all while taking a rigorous course load that includes 17 honors/CCP courses throughout high school. In addition to a rigorous course load, she also is an active member of NHS, SADD, Spanish and Ski Club. She is also the president of pep club and is the student council senior representative,” said school counselor Holly Marshall. “In addition to her classes, GPA, and extracurricular commitments, she also takes any opportunity she can to volunteer in the community and help other people. She organized a fundraiser for the Youngstown BlueCoats where she collected hats, coats, and gloves. Grace also has volunteered to wrap gifts for children all while being employed at the Eagle Grill and Tavern. Grace has a very bright future ahead of her and Hubbard High School is so thrilled to have been part of her journey.”

The Twenty Under 20 nominees were selected based on a calculation of 50 percent leadership and 25 percent each academic achievement and extracurricular activities. The top five winners will be selected to split $1,000 to be donated to the local charity of their choice. One overall winner will be picked from among the five. Those winners will be announced during the Twenty Under 20 banquet on December 6, 2022.
